New Flash - some of them are schooooool teachers. Oooooooo. And some work in real-estate. Aaaaaaaaaaah. And they listen to music. And have tattoos. And wear black t-shirts. And drink beer. Why isn’t anyone telling this story

4th of July - Blues Traveller bores thousands at Red Rocks

As we are spending the summer in Colorado, we thought it would be nice to see a show.. any show at Red Rocks on the 4th of July. Unfortunately, we did not get the memo that Blues Traveller is a hippie jam band. We should have known as soon as we saw the Grateful Dead t-shirt that the lead guitarist wore.
The Violent Femmes opened for BT and did a fine job but we have to admit that we burnt ourselves out on this band in the 80s and find it hard to listen let along sing along with them like everyone else.
The most entertaining part of the evening was a leather skinned bleach blonde in her mid 30s that had way too much energy to be just drunk. We are in meth country. White people crack. She was doing some dirty dancing during the Femmes set. She did a head stand and showed her tits.
Are we in bizzarro land? A woman with a hat decorated w/ fake pot leaves sold ‘non-intoxicating’ hemp ice-cream.
All this makes us wish we could be back in Washington, DC where thousands and thousands of sun burnt patriots dressed in red white and blue blouses and t-shirts mill on the mall betwixt Smithsonian culture booths featuring story tellers from Papua New Guinea, US marine bands, motorcyle clubs, a great Jazz show produced by the city, and super Christian patriots holding their own ‘family 4th of July celebration’ within the larger celebration. All capped with a top notch fireworks show paid for with US dollars. Now that’s holiday entertainment.
